Trio of AlivaClassicM project completions

We’re marking a trio of AlivaClassicM completions on refurbishment and new build  projects that demonstrate the thermal efficiencies our EWI system with a granular textural finish can yield, as well as meeting architectural design intent without compromise.

These three projects feature our A2,s1,d0 rated, Kiwa UK and BBA certified rock mineral wool insulated AlivaClassicM – a system with no height of boundary restrictions, Building Safety Act HRB and Gateway 2 compliant and a design life in excess of 30 years.

YMCA, Hanley: The building is part of the YMCA facilities in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent. A new extension, it includes a range of specialist areas designed to meet the needs of young people with art & crafts spaces, digital training zones and areas dedicated to careers and life skills training.

Architect Ellis Hillman Partnership envisaged a clean, crisp aesthetic for the project achieved with our AlivaClassicM textured EWI system in off white. This was combined with our AlivaDesign system, which created stylish accent detailing in an EWI product that looks like natural timber. The result, a visually engaging, creative aesthetic to welcome the building’s users.

A total product volume of 300sqm achieved U-Values of 0.18W/m2k and 0.24W/m2k with our two Kiwa UK certified systems, fire rated to A2,s1,d0. We worked in partnership with main contractor Morris Property and installer BYCS Ltd on this project.

The Rectory, Dagenham: Located in Old Dagenham Park, this Grade II listed building has a unique history. A former library that had fallen into disrepair, a planning application to turn this heritage building into a Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) school and therapeutic space gave it a new lease of life.

The London Borough of Barking and Dagenham undertook the £2.3m regeneration programme. Our brief was to refurbish the exterior envelope with a clean, crisp aesthetic and a system that would yield thermal efficiency and bring sustainability benefit to this listed building.

Our A2,s1,d0 fire rated, BBA certified AlivaClassicM in a crisp white was chosen which delivered a significant U-value improvement, from 2.14W/m2k to 0.22W/m2k, with a product volume of 400sqm.

The EWI system needed to embody a calming aesthetic for this new SEND base, hence the colour choice. However, a key architectural feature is a series of art deco details to the frontage of the building, a set of three staggered curvatures, alongside the sharp lines and feature angles of this distinctive building. Our AlivaClassicM system created a smooth aesthetic on both straight lines and curves equally.

The system realised the design intent of architect SixFootStudio. We worked in partnership with main contractor The Auburn Group and installer Stoneguard Projects (South) Ltd.

Windrush Health Centre, Witney: This health centre in Oxford provides NHS primary care services and opened in 2012. It was funded by seven local GPs who pumped £5.5m into the project to realise exemplary primary care in the area and to replace the previous 1970s building on the site.

Several parts of the exterior envelope of the building were originally clad with a mineral wool cavity render system. Unfortunately the installation was non-compliant due to a number of detailing defects that led to extensive water ingress and multiple areas of cracking.

The mineral wool cavity system was replaced, with 800sqm of our AlivaClassicM EWI direct fix system in off white installed. A2,s1,d0 fire rated and Kiwa UK certified, it provided a cost effective solution over a cavity system while bringing the install to a compliant watertight standard. A U-value of 0.15W/m2K was achieved.

Our system created smooth clean lines across several elevations including consulting rooms and lift shaft areas and on the large sweeping convex shape at the front of the centre, with the mineral wool insulation moulded to realise this detailing and the design intent of the architectural practice Oxford Architects.

We worked in partnership with main contractor Kingerley and installer Stoneguard Projects (South) Ltd.
