The brief
To provide beautiful, Jura Limestone stone cladding and backing structure for a modern residential and commercial building on Glasgow’s Great Western Road. The façade had to reflect the contemporary face of construction, while respecting the local heritage. Originally briefed to provide backing structure only, we were brought in to deliver the cladding after the original supplier was unable to meet the specification.
What we did
We worked quickly and efficiently with the sub-contractor to design the façade using two types of Jura Limestone: beige and honed C120 & Grey. Honed C120 was utilised as a rainscreen format instead of traditional wet laid blocks on the façade. For the apartment entrance at ground floor we supplied traditional blocks in the same stone with the same finish, due to the impact requirements. Our Ali Stone 2 was the ideal backing structure to fix the stone externally, as it was efficient and lightweight.
What makes it special
This stunning modern stone façade had to stand up to close scrutiny under strict local planning rules, which require contemporary buildings to respect the heritage of the majestic stone structures lining this famous route, built in 1840 as a major turnpike to the West of Scotland.
What they say
We chose Aliva UK because of their proven expertise on prestige projects throughout Europe. We needed an established company with a solid track record, and the service from Aliva was excellent. Their team made regular trips to our site in Glasgow throughout the project, and invited us to their stone quarry in Germany to inspect the levels of quality control there. This gave us the added reassurance that we would receive a high-class product on time to satisfy a demanding project schedule. I would certainly work with Aliva again. They are focused on customer satisfaction, and provided excellent technical backup – crucial when ensuring the safe and expert installation of this type of stone cladding.
