The brief
To deliver a high end aluminium finish for a flagship leisure facility in the centre of the town that would stand out even in Oldham’s very changeable weather systems. It needed to be a focal point for the redevelopment of the town centre, as well as reflect the top class competitions that would take part in the new facility.
What we did
Our aluminium cladding was suggested for the project by Willmott Dixon and Range Roofing. The customer and architect agreed with the suggestion and so we provided 2,500 sqm of Alucovering aluminium cladding in three anodised finishes. The variation of finishes allows the building to shimmer even when overcast.
What makes it special
Three anodised finishes were used across the façade in a random pattern to create a modern effect which changes throughout the day as the sun moves around the building. The one mirrored and two etched finishes ensures the centre, which will be able to hold regional and televised events, stands out from its surroundings.
What they say
The aluminium fully met the Council’s expectations for the facade. The finish picks up changes in lighting conditions throughout the day. The reflections generated by the setting sun are particularly dramatic. It is clearly a quality product that provides interesting variations to the appearance of the building and contributes to raising the profile of the council facility, meeting the aspirational intent of the development.
