The brief
To create a luxurious finish for kitchen splash backs that was not only highly durable, but also transformed them into a striking feature wall in 200 beautifully crafted, designer apartments. The finish had to reflect the contemporary interior crafted from a historical former hospital building in this newly fashionable part of London’s East End, between the Smithfield Conservation Area and St Paul’s Cathedral.
What we did
The architect chose Aliva’s concrete-effect Metrostone resin finish to add a high-tech, industrial edge to the splash backs, while ensuring ease of repair and durability. The thick, cement-based resin system is non-yellowing and resistant to abrasion. Specifying a light grey colour for the 2000m2 wall area gave a crisp, entirely modern feel to the design and overall look of the kitchen area.
What makes it special
Aliva’s attention to detail and the bespoke finish shone through in this project. We worked with the customer to ensure the finish met their requirement to avoid staining or water penetration. After testing, we applied three coats of Metrostone resin sealer rather than the standard two, to ensure a tough, lasting finish.
